A delegation from Qatar Financial Information Unit (QFIU) and the National Anti Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Committee (NAMLC) participated in a workshop on “the Revised FATF Recommendations on Combating Money Laundering and the Financing of Terrorism & Proliferation” organized by the Secretariat General of The Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf in cooperation with Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency (SAMA) during the period from 29 to 30 September 2012, in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Representatives from Financial Action Task Force (FATF), International Monetary Fund (IMF), and Middle East & North Africa Financial Action Task Force (MENAFATF) Secretariats, and around 120 persons representing different AML/CFT agencies from GCC countries and MENAFATF member countries attended.
The workshop aims at introducing the revised recommendations to the participating AML/CFT experts, and informing them of the obligations and the procedures required by the Member States to comply with the international standards.
It is worth mentioning that FATF adopted in its Plenary meeting held during February 2012 the revised recommendations, which included amendments and additions and redrafting of a number of recommendations previously adopted by FATF and applied during the past years. The revised recommendations also included new recommendations on combating the financing of proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, tax crimes and corruption.
